I couldn't come up with a cute title for this post to really do it justice. I am sharing this for the sake of allowing my child to one day be able to read this and tell his children what NOT to do......

Tuesday morning in the car Cambell found a quarter and asked if he could have it. Like always, I said yes and we went about our day. He put the quarter in his pocket and played with it some throughout the morning. This was nothing out of the ordinary for him, by the way. We were getting Addie Grace's picture taken and I remember seeing said quarter sitting on Chastity's desk beside his other "toy of the day", a flashlight. No big deal.

Fast forward to about 3:15. Cambell woke up from his nap crying which is pretty rare. I went into his room and asked him what was wrong. He said he was thirsty. Being the great mom that I am (ha), I quickly accommodated him with some kool-aid. He came and sat down beside me on the couch and was still whining some and I noticed he was wheezing a little. I started to ask him if he was feeling okay and checking him a little...

Mommy: "Cambell, do you feel okay, sweetie?"
Cambell: "You know that dime (quarter) I had? It's way back in my mouth." Sob. Whine.
Mommy: "What????" The dime? You mean the quarter in your pocket? THE MONEY??"
Cambell: "uh huh"
Mommy: "Where is it?"
Cambell: "Really far in my mouth. I didn't mean to..."
Mommy: "DID YOU SWALLOW IT????"
Calming down as not to scare my child into lying....
"Cambell, you aren't in trouble but Mommy needs to know the truth. Did you swallow the quarter? When? Did you swallow it and then take your nap?"
Cambell: "Yes mam. My throat hurts!"

Insert full panic mode in here! (Remember, he's wheezing!)

Call Chad. Call sister-n-law who is a nurse. Call pediatrician. Of course, I can't reach any of them on the first try. I did reach Chad on the 2nd attempt and got him to hurry home. Rush to pediatrician with my happy go lucky child who is still occasionally wheezing and talking a little raspy from time to time with a "sore throat".

After about 30 minutes Cambell swallowed a little weird and looked at me and said, "Mommy, my throat doesn't hurt anymore, I don't need to see Dr. Davis." A few minutes later Dr. Davis checks out my little guy and says he appears okay but we have to get an x-ray to be sure it isn't lodged somewhere in his esophagus.

On the road again. Head to hospital in Florence.

Have his "picture" taken and all is well....THANK YOU SWEET JESUS!

It was already into the lower stomach/upper colon by this time and now we just have to wait for it to arrive on the other end!! I will spare you those details but use your imagination....

Needless to say, Cambell is no longer allowed to be in possession of quarters (or any other coin for that matter). I was SO shocked he did this. He has never put money in his mouth before-well, to my knowledge I guess...sometimes you think you know everything they do but I guess you don't!

I'm so glad you posted this and am so thankful he is ok. Carter also likes to play with coins and I've always wondered if she would put them in her moutha. We will put an end to that immediately!
Your kids are just precious!
