Today was the BIG day-Parker started 1st Grade! Unfortunately, it appears that the memory card I used to take his first day of school pictures is a dud. I am so upset! I have pictures of every first day of school since he was TWO! I have the pictures but I can't get them off the stinking memory card! I guess I'll just have to do a "second day of school" picture tomorrow!
He was SO nervous about school today. He has been saying for weeks that "First grade is HARD, and I hope I don't get an F-!" It is too funny. I must say though, he was apparently not the only one who was nervous. When I took him to his class, all the kids were sitting in their desks and not saying a word. You could have heard a pin drop! I had to wait for a few minutes to talk to his teacher and then I went over to his desk to tell him bye. As I did, he was rubbing the corners of his eyes trying to cover up that he had tears in his eyes. OH MY. Melt my heart. The tears filled my eyes and I had to leave so that both of us could pull it together!
When I picked him up he was so funny! He told me that he was, "20 days EXHAUSTED!!". The poor kid was worn out! His brain was tired! He had a good first day but was sure to let me know that lunch time and recess are a lot shorter this year than in K-5! He had a small homework assignment that we did without too much complaining so hopefully we are off on the right foot!
I can hardly believe he is in the First Grade. It is such a bitter-sweet feeling. I love seeing him grow and watching how much he is learning but I hate watching my baby grow up so fast! Next week he starts football practice. Yes, football practice. My heart may not survive.
