4 a.m. playtime

This story includes a night of little sleep for mommy and a wide awake child! Cambell had the flu last week. We went to the doctor Wednesday b/c his fever was 102and they said he had the flu and to be sure to keep him well hydrated and treat the fever. Okay, pretty simple, right? The next day Chad's mom had the boys and we talked about just giving him whatever he would drink/eat that day b/c of the flu. She told me mid-day that he wanted mostly Pepsi to drink and was eating jello. Without a second thought, I told her, "fine, I'm just glad he is eating and drinking". (he had refused dinner the night before) She later told me that he was very "wired" and did not want to sleep much. Now you would think the light bulb would come on about now, but it didn't. I began to wonder if the dye in the new flavor Tylenol had him wired but then realized he only had one dose so that must not be it..hmmmm...fast-forward to 2 a.m. when my child is in the crib constantly yelling, "MAAA-MAAA". We do the rocking, drinking milk, singing, back to bed, scream for Mommy, rocking, singing, scream again, rock--you get the point. Finally at 4 a.m., after 2 hours of this and me realizing there was nothing wrong with him (i.e. no fever, no tummy ache, etc)I decided to turn the light on and put him on the floor to play. What I invisioned was him crying and wanting to go to bed. I was dead wrong. He smiled his little shy grin at me and proceeded to pull out every noisy toy in the toy box. I thought I would cry! I finally just laughed at him and myself and let him play for 20 or 30 minutes. After this, he was ready to go to bed. It wasn't until the next morning (you know, an hour later) that I realized he was "wired" because he probably consumed a 20 ounce pepsi the day before!! Don't worry, I won't make that mistake again!!

Okay I am going to try your trick...I too was up at 4 am and could not figure out the problem. No Pepsi or caffeine here. We will try play time like you and see if that works!
