April 30, 2009

That's my DUE DATE. Yep, I'm prego! It has been such a whirlwind in the last 4 weeks or so but we are finally able to share our good news. Here's our journey...

I found out when I was about a second pregnant, only 3 weeks and 4 days (not even late yet!). I had 3 home tests-somehow you just never believe the first two!!! At the doctor's office I had a NEGATIVE screen. What? Negative? They drew blood and told me they would call me the next day. I came home and took another test and it was negative (after 2 positives earlier that day???). I waited 24+ hours and they called to say the results were POSITIVE! However, the nurse then informed me that my "numbers" were not good and all signs indicated I would miscarry. She told me the doctor was willing to let me try some oral progesterone and see if the numbers would come up. I told her I would need to talk with Chad and call her back. What a long hard talk that was. I was overwhelmed to say the least and worried if we would be trying to take things into our own hands instead of letting God be in control...after prayer and talking we decided to take the meds.

Three days later they rechecked my labs. They did not check my progesterone at this point because I had not been on the meds long enough. They checked my HCG and it went from 15 to 107! It was only "required" to double in order for us to have good news. Four days later, more blood work and my HCG was 580+ and my progesterone went from 4 to 46! Praise the Lord! I was told at this point that my doctor believed one of two things...either the lab made an error the first time or the meds had worked beyond what they have ever clinically seen happen.

I was originally told that a progesterone below 5 was not a viable pregnancy but they were wrong! They did an ultrasound last week and all was great! We heard and saw the heart beat and all of the measurements were right on track. I will finally see the doctor next month and be on a normal schedule. I am still taking the meds and will do so until I am 12 weeks, just in case it wasn't a lab error.

When I went in for my ultrasound and went to the secretary to check out she said the most wonderful thing to me. (She knew all I had been through) She said, "I love it when God takes a pregnancy and just takes over and makes it right" AMEN!!! I don't know if it was the lab or if it was truly me, but I do know that He handled it all! Did I mention I had a migraine for 3 days up until about 10 minutes after we decided to take the meds...it mysteriously vanished after we decided.

We finally told the boys last night and it was wonderful to see how excited they are, Parker especially. I will save those details for another post as this one is already quite long. We feel so blessed to have another life to add to our family and even more blessed that God has proven Himself, once again, as the ultimate healer and showing his power and love.

Yeah! Congrats on your little blessing... I will be praying that all goes well. I've been through the whole thing with progesterone, HCG's, etc. so I know it can be stressful. But it sounds like you have your eyes on the One in charge :)! I hope this pregnancy is a time filled with joy for you and your sweet family!
