Pickin' & Grinin'
It is a family tradition that we go to my aunt Sally and uncle Roy's house on Thanksgiving eve. They have a huge gathering on Thanksgiving day and cook a hog. Wednesday night is when the hog gets started cooking and folks start coming in for the celebrations. Every year people bring their guitars and sit around and have an old fashioned pickin' and grinnin'. It is one of those things that just makes it feel like it's really Thanksgiving. Many of those who usually participate in the music were late coming in this year, however, sweet uncle Roy made sure my children still got to play the guitar. The WASHtar more specifically. If you have never seen this, it's fantastic. Created and designed by my uncle to allow the handicapped and elderly be able to play music. It is wonderful. Check it out at http://charlieandderrick.com/washtar.html. It is a ministry in and of itself to see what he has done with the washtar and how he continues to touch lives.
