Parker's 1st trip to the ER...

I received "the call" today, you know the one you never want to get as a parent. "We have a little emergency with Parker...he's going to be fine but I think he needs stitches..." Parker was being his usual, busy, 100% boy self today and was trying to open up the back door at Chad's parents house when his hands apparently slipped off the door knob and he fell backwards into the freezer. He hit the back of his head on the corner of the freezer and busted it open. I was at work in a meeting when Brandi called me. I, of course, had the expected panic reaction where I could barely breathe let alone talk! I recovered in about 5 minutes and met them at the emergency room. He was, as you can imagine, terrified and hysterical when we got to triage. I was so proud of him though because he quickly settled down and cooperated with everyone. They were so good with him and brought him crayons, a coloring book, and bubbles! He actually played with the bubbles while they cleaned it up and put the medicine on it. The pictures below are from the 15 minutes he had to have the numbing medicine on his head before getting his staples. He has 2 staples in the back of his head. No more bandage, just staples and neosporin. They had to cut a small piece of his hair out, but not enough to be able to notice it. He says, "I don't like having staples in my hair mommy" and he also thinks he cannot run b/c they will fall out! Of course, no trip to ER for a nearly 4 year old is complete without a trip by Target for a new toy and a stop for chicken and french fries! And in 7 days I am sure I will re-visit Target for another prize when we have the joy of a trip to the dentist AND staples to be removed in the same day!

Oh Lee, you know I feel your pain. I still haven't recovered from the "Barnes and Noble" incident. Just be glad you weren't there when it happened!! I'm so glad he is ok and I will be thinking about you when you have dentist/staple removal day. Sounds like a blast. Maybe Chad should take him!
